Clay Atkinson and Susan Porter are pleased to announce the formation of The Atkinson-Porter Photography Workshops. The first series, “Weekend Workouts,” is designed for serious art photographers, with busy schedules, who realize there is an elusive element in their work that is either missing or yet to be explored.

The inaugural workshop will be “The Emotional Landscape” led by nationally and internationally acclaimed professionals Douglas Beasley and Steffanie O’Hanlon, August 27–29, 2010. Douglas’s photographs are widely collected and as a highly respected educator, he has a unique talent for helping others find their creative voice. (www.douglasbeasley.com). Steffanie presses a camera to her face -- the words and keenly observed moments of human experience are transformed into images and writing which inform her own work as well as the knowledge and caring she shares in her teaching. She practices as a photographer and clinical social worker. (www.steffanieohanlon.com). Both Douglas and Steffanie include some active and visual exercises.

This is a non-technical workshop. Held in Addison Woolley Gallery’s new location in the beautiful, seaside city of Portland, Maine; the“Weekend Workouts” will allow participants to work with their own cameras and choice of medium. The weekend will begin with a wine and cheese reception, at Vox, a nearby salon style photography gallery, on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. to get acquainted and begin to define individual goals for the weekend. Douglas and Steffanie will both show some of their own work.

From 9:00 a.m.– 6:00 p.m. on S
aturday, we will explore visual aesthetics; pivotal figures in photographic history; presentations and discussions with workshop leaders; and work collaboratively at locations throughout Portland developing our own individual vision. On Sunday morning we will cover new ground with our workshop leader and continue our location shooting.

Once participants have gone home and had time to work with their new images, a brief exhibit of participant’s photographs will be shown at The Addison Woolley Gallery at the end of the following month.
